- Before entering and leaving the dojo (training hall) bow from
the waist -
- “Karate we rei ni hajimari rei ni owaru” (Karate begins and ends
with courtesy).
- In the dojo silence must be maintained; no smoking, gum
chewing, eating or drinking and no bad language should be used.
- Nobody will be allowed to train whilst under the influence of
alcohol or drugs.
- A clean white karate-gi (karate suit) must be worn; not more
than one badge may be worn on the jacket and no markings on the rest of the gi.
- No wrist watches, rings, earrings or chains may be worn for
safety reasons. It is recommended that children wear a vest underneath their karate-gi. Students
wearing glasses must wear the sports safe type.
- Fingers and toenails must be kept short and clean at all times,
hands and feet must be kept clean and always consider your personnel hygiene.
- However intimate a master and pupil may be outside the Dojo, inside
the instructor is always called Sensei and treated with upmost respect.
- The karate-ka must always respect an opponent, never losing
your temper no matter how an opponent might behave.
- Punctuality at all times is essential. If late for a lesson
change quickly and “warm-up” to the side of the class and wait permission to join in.
- Outside the Dojo, the Karate-ka must never use the techniques he has
learnt, other than in defence of life or limb.
- Karate students must always inform their Sensei if they are to be
absent for more than 2 weeks.
- Visitors are welcome subject to their observing the above rules
where applicable.
- Junior students will not be allowed to leave the Dojo after
lesson starts without
permission from the instructor.
- Students must ensure their association memberships do not
expire, or they will not be allowed to grade or attend courses.
- Students should attend a minimum of two Association (B.W.K.S)
courses per annum. A record of course attendance should be kept at the back of Association licenses.
- If suffering from any disability or illness the student must
obtain approval from their doctor before commencing training. The instructor must be informed in writing of any special needs e.g. asthma, poor hearing or epilepsy. Students are advised to
seek medical advice before returning to training after injury.
